Jamaica is famous for having gorgeous sunny and warm weather most of the year. That is one of the main reasons that people like to vacation in Jamaica. If you’re making travel plans to visit Jamaica you’re probably trying to find out what the best time of the year is to visit Jamaica so that you can make the most of your vacation.

Well, what the best time of year is depends on what you like to do. If you want to sit on a beach with a cold drink and bask in the warm sun for a few days then the best time to plan a trip to Jamaica is during the summer months when the temperature is usually between 80 and 90 degrees every day. July and August are months that Jamaica has the warmest temperatures and those are also the most popular months for vacations so if you plan on taking a vacation during July or August be prepared to pay more for things like hotels, food, and airfare then you would if went at another time. Even during the coldest month of the year, February, Jamaica’s average temperature is in the 70’s usually so there is really not a bad time to take a vacation in Jamaica. If you are planning on going up into the Blue Mountains it will be colder than it will be on the rest of the island. Usually the coldest temperatures that Jamaica has are in the 40’s at night in the Blue Mountains.

If you want to avoid the rain then don’t plan your vacation in the fall months of October, November or December. May can sometimes be rainy also so if you want to lessen the chances of your vacation getting rained out try to avoid traveling to Jamaica during those rainy months. A lot of people worry about hurricanes because Jamaica sits directly in the hurricane belt. Hurricane season is usually from June until November. It’s very rare for any one island in the Caribbean to get hit directly with a hurricane so when you’re planning your vacation don’t think that you need to avoid going to Jamaica during the summer months in case of a hurricane. There’s a better chance that the weather in Jamaica will be gorgeous during that time than there is that the island will be hit by a hurricane.

If you’re really concerned about what would happen if a hurricane hit during your vacation you can purchase vacation insurance through a travel agent so that you would get your money back if you had to cancel your vacation or if you got stuck on the island. Vacation insurance also covers the cost of things non refundable airfare if you have to cancel a trip or if the weather forces the airline to cancel a flight. If you have to book your vacation more than three months in advance purchasing vacation insurance is a smart move so that you don’t get stuck paying hundreds of dollars for airfare and a hotel if your plans suddenly change or if the weather is bad and the vacation needs to be cancelled.

Are you planning to travel to Jamaica for your vacation this year? If you are planning on staying in Jamaica for more than a few days or if you are traveling with small children, or several family members, or a large group of friends then you should think about renting a small villa or a townhouse in Jamaica instead of staying in a hotel. Hotels can be extremely expensive, especially during the summer months when the tourists are out in full force. Staying in a hotel for more than a few days can be uncomfortable too. And if you’re traveling with small children or a large group of people then hotels can be too cramped to accommodate everyone in the party. It makes a lot more sense to rent an apartment, a villa, or a small house for the duration of your trip.

Think of how much more comfortable you and your family or friends will be staying in a cozy home instead of a cold hotel. For the same price or less than renting several hotel rooms you and your party can stay in a vacation rental that will have all the same amenities as a hotel but will be a lot more comfortable. You can even get vacation rental homes and apartments that are right on the beach. Many people buy single family homes or small houses and apartments and rent them for a week, a month or the entire summer to tourists who are coming to Jamaica to spend some time in the luxurious tropical weather that the island is famous for. Many of these vacation rentals provide laundry service and housecleaning service just like you would get at a hotel but you get the comfort of staying in a home.

Renting a vacation home or apartment can also save you money because you can find a local grocery store or market and buy groceries so that you can cook your meals instead of eating out for every meal. Health conscious travelers will be much happier cooking their own meals than eating high calorie or high fat restaurant fare at every single meal while on vacation. Many vacation rentals also have laundry facilities that you can use so that you can pack less clothing to bring with you and you can wash whatever you need to during the trip. If you are traveling with small children then you will appreciate the cozy atmosphere of a vacation rental because your children can maintain a semi-normal schedule in a real home that would be difficult to maintain in a hotel. Renting a vacation home or apartment can also be a great way to set up a home base during your vacation.

There are a lot of fun things to see and do in Jamaica and renting a home will give you a central point that can act has a hub and information center when everyone in your group is off doing their own thing. If you look around carefully you can find very good deals on vacation home rentals, especially if you plan your vacation during the off season.
