Traveling to Jamaica on a Budget

Think that you can’t swing a tropical vacation this year because money is tight? There are lots of ways that you can trim costs so that you can still afford to have a nice tropical vacation in Jamaica.

The first thing you can do to save money on your vacation plans is to get a bunch of friends or family member to go with you. The single biggest expense when you go on vacation is somewhere to stay so if you can find other people who want to go and are willing to share the cost of a place to stay then your biggest obstacle when it comes to being able to afford a great Jamaican vacation is removed. If you have three or more people going with you then renting a house or a condo is going to be more affordable then staying in a hotel. If you are renting a house or condo you can also save money on food because you can buy some groceries at a local market and cook at home rather than eating out at every meal. If you can’t afford the cost of a fractional ownership or a condo rental look on websites like Craigslist to see if you can find someone willing to swap their apartment or home in Jamaica with your home or apartment for a week or so. Lots of people have had great success finding a free place to stay by networking online.

Airfare is usually the second largest expense when planning a vacation. Think that you won’t be able to save money on airfare? Think again. If you look online and compare airline prices online you can end up getting a great deal on airfare. It does take some diligence and some time to look online and compare prices and you need to be ready to buy the ticket as soon as you find a great deal because that deal won’t be around very long but if you put some effort into it you can find some very low prices on airfare by looking at the rates for different airlines and booking a ticket online. Sometimes it’s cheaper to book a one way ticket so if round trip airfare is too much for your vacation budget look at the cost of booking a one way ticket to get there and another one way ticket to get back. This is a very good thing to do if you are planning on staying more than a week in Jamaica. You can also buy a one way ticket to get to Jamaica and try to fly standby on the way back to save money. Jamaica is an island so there is really no other way to get there except to fly so if you can’t find a great deal on airfare you will just have to pay the cost of the airfare and save money in other ways to make up for that expense. There are lots of other ways that you can save money on traveling so don’t think that your vacation budget is blown if you need to pay full price for airfare.
